The BilgeWater Trips
Warsaw Kentucky -BilgeWater is off to the races
Now, when is the last time you went to an auto race via your boat? Well, you can. Kentucky Speedway is just off the river near the Markland Dam at Warsaw, Kentucky. Here you’ll find a wide lake like river with a variety of shoreline for tubing, fishing, or swimming. Plus your only 6 miles from the Kentucky Speedway.
Bilgewater likes to go fast in his boat, but after 30 miles per hour, he leaves the danger to those drivers that circle the speedway. Besides, BilgeWater can’t get his boat to go on asphalt.
But a run to Warsaw, and he’s off. There are several marinas off-river so his vessel will be well protected from wake. Smuggler’s Cove and Pier 99 are on the Kentucky Side. Smugglers has a large floating guest dock so you and your friends can gather on the same finger and have some great fun. Or, if you wish, reserve a covered dock. If the party grows more than the dock holds, run up to the pavilion or across the street to the remodeled restaurant/pub (BilgeWater has been known to cut a mean rug to the bands there). If your boat can’t sleep the whole crew or you’ve invited some landlubbers to attend, they can stay at the motel rooms above the restaurant. The ships store can help you with any needs.
Across the bay (take the kids tubing on this lake or catch a record bass near the shallows) is Pier 99. While their dock space is limited, you’ll find no finer nautical clothing shopping in the area. And, the owners/host are quiet friendly. Fuel is available at both locations.
Now if the circles you wish to watch are roulette wheels while the mate is at the races, call for a shuttle to Belterra Casino. That roulette wheel really goes around faster than Buddy Baker. And the food/accommodations are first rate. Take the clubs to for some anger golf (hit the ball, get angry, hit the ball, get angry, wouldn’t you really be on the water?).
On the Indiana side, Turtle Bay and Castaways will also offer transit docks and fuel. Their closer to the casino, but you’ll have to have transportation to the races. Smugglers Cove usually can run you to the gate and pick you up after the race. Since you’re going anti traffic, you are usually back at the boat in just under a half hour.
Since this ride is only about 60 miles downriver from Port Cincinnati. BilgeWater takes this trip twice a year, once for the Bush races and once for the Indy Car races. The fans look at BilgeWater really weird as he shows up in admiral hat, white captains shirt and deck shoes. While the usual fan is dressed in a number 3 tee shirt, jeans, a NASCAR Hat, and chopper boots. But after some race track fuel (grog), and couple of giant turkey legs, all seem to be as one….Race fans. BilgeWater thinks the track wave is really a boat wake.
BilgeWater is changing his oil in preparation for the next race and dancing at the Pub. Join in!
